Mum at 40

Dr Karen Osburn has been a Chiropractor for 13 years and became an Mom at age 41.  She now makes it her mission to encourage other Moms who have found themselves a parent in their 40s.


Dr Karen resonnates with Brene Brown’s work and the quote she connects with is: “You’re imperfect, you are wired for struggle and worthy of belonging.”  This was the premise of her starting Mom at 41.  “The reason I’m doing this is so you don’t have to be in the closet.  You don’t have to hide this.”

Dr Karen’s top tips to stay sane through toddlerhood:

1.  A morning power hour.  1/3 reading 1/3 journaling 1/3 movement.
2.  Regular exercise.
3.  Not taking life so seriously.  Times challenging.
4.  Pause make something light of it, make something goofy.  I just pause or see what it is, do you want to have sometime with Mommy. It shakes him out of it.

Dr Karen’s top tips for adoptive parents

  1. Connect with other adoptive parents.
  2. Still take care of you.

Karen would also to create a resource for newly adoptive parents, as there is not much support currently available.

“Just let them be kids.  Give them the time that they need.”
